“The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of His Messiah, and He will reign forever and ever,” (Revelation 11:15)
Around us, the desire for power is unmistakable. Nations compete for it, businesses strategize to gain it, and even families sometimes wrestle over it. The world loves power because those who hold it influence decisions, shape history, and command respect.
Yet history has also shown how human power—when held by the wrong hands—can bring unimaginable harm. Empires fall, leaders fade, and worldly strength eventually crumbles.
But Scripture reminds us of a different kind of power—one that never fades. Jesus told Pilate, “You would have no power over me if it were not given to you from above” (John 19:11). Also in Daniel 2:21 we read, “He changes times and seasons; He removes kings and sets up kings…” All earthly power exists only because God allows it. Real power belongs to Him alone.
The Power Behind Christmas
Christmas itself is a display of God’s unmatched power.
Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit—God working beyond natural means. An unborn Child formed in the womb of a virgin because “the power of the Most High” overshadowed her (Luke 1:35). The miracle of Christmas is a testimony that God accomplishes what human strength never can. Truly with God there is nothing impossible! (Luke 1:37).
Now, that same Holy Spirit who formed the body of Christ in Mary’s womb is now forming Christ in the hearts of us believers. Everyday and steadily, the miracle and power of Christmas continues —quietly, powerfully, personally. Let us give a moment to thank God for the outworking of His power in our lives.
A Power the World Overlooks
While the world scrambles for influence, it overlooks the greatest power of all: the power that defeats the enemy of our souls.
From Genesis 3:15, God promised that the offspring of the woman would crush the head of the serpent. The birth of Jesus marked the beginning of that victory. His death and resurrection sealed it. One day every earthly authority will bow before Him, and all lesser powers will cease.
Our Calling This Christmas
If we have received Christ, then we have also received His Spirit—His power. And with that power comes a mission: to show the world where true power lies, and that is in Jesus!
This Christmas, as people chase the world’s version of power—status, wealth, recognition—we can point them to the gospel, “the power of God unto salvation,” (Romans 1:16).
Let us remind them and ourselves that the power the world desires cannot satisfy. It will only leave hearts wanting and ever wandering.
Let us tell the world that the power God gives brings life, victory, everlasting hope, and ultimate power!
Prayer and Reflection
Lord, thank You for revealing true power through Jesus. As we celebrate His birth, fill our hearts again with the power of Your Spirit. Help us witness boldly, love deeply, and point others to the One who reigns forever. Amen.
How has the power of God been manifested and is continually being manifested in your life?
