Reading for the day: Psalm 139:13-18
It has been thirteen years and two other successful pregnancies since my first one, but I am still in complete awe and wonder of the beginning and development of life.

My lingering question, and one I’m eager to ask God one day (if we’re allowed at all to ask questions in heaven), is this: “How do the gametes know?”
What I mean is how do they know they have to start dividing after fertilization? And as they keep on dividing, how do they know which group they should join – the placenta’s or the baby’s? As for those who go into the baby camp, how do the cells know which organ or tissue they must specialize into? Limbs? Lungs? Thighs? Tongues?
Life is miraculous! For you moms who are reading this, I want you to pause and think about this: you have firsthand experienced nothing short of a miracle! Think about all the processes your child went through before the moment of birth. Go on and praise God for making you a partaker of His miraculous craft of life!
However, to conceive outside the conventions of humanity is even more miraculous. The virgin birth by Mary to Jesus was the ultimate miracle of the miracle that is conception. Mary’s pregnancy wasn’t like any other woman’s that have lived before and even after her. She conceived a virgin, and she will only be the woman who gave birth as a virgin.
The unfolding of God’s miraculous works are often preceded by doubts, fears, and questions.
Mary’s “How could this be when I am a virgin?” was Moses’ “But I am a stutterer,” and Jeremiah’s “I am but a child.” It is our “I’m a nobody, how can I be used by God?,” and our “It won’t be enough, how can I give my offering? ”It’s too hard, I don’t think it can be done.”
Joseph’s decision to divorce Mary was Elijah’s resolution to hide in a cave because he thought he was the only prophet left. It was Jonah’s conclusion to run away from his mission. It is us contemplating on cutting back, running away, quitting.
This season, as we go back to that first Christmas, let us listen to the angel telling Mary, “There is nothing impossible with God,” (Luke 1:37). Let us listen to God as He spoke to the prophet Jeremiah, “I am the Lord of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me?,” (Jeremiah 32:27).
This Christmas season, let this truth resound in us: We are serving an All-Powerful God! Our Heavenly Father is the Omnipotent, All-Wise, Perfect God who created the entire universe. He knows our every care and our every need. He sees our tears, He hears our cries. He is able to work wonders and miracles in our lives.
He knows our every care and our every need. He sees our tears, He hears our cries. He is able to work wonders and miracles in our lives.
Like Mary, let us say, “I am the Lord’s servant. Let it be done to me according to His will.” Like Joseph, let us have faith, trust, and obey. For those who trust in Him will never be put to shame. Remember, you are a living, breathing miracle; fearfully and wonderfully conceived and formed in the womb of your mother. You are a walking, talking miracle, proof of God’s power. Always believe in God’s power to make a miracle in your life.

Reflection: Are you going through something right now which only a miracle can resolve? How much do you believe in the power of God?
