Summer of Great Commission

Read: Philippians 1:3-11

Here in Canada we know the season of longer days and warmer weather is at hand the moment we see beautiful perennial tulips spring up from the ground. Late spring to early autumn is usually a time of getting out more for outdoor activities such as camping, mountain biking, picnics at the parks, and other outdoor recreational interests.

In our last segment of our Lenten Devotionals, we look at the mission of the Lord Jesus Christ – the purpose of His entire suffering, death, and resurrection.

What a fitting time to tackle the mission of the Lord because here in Canada, we actually have the Summer of Great Commission – what we have come to call this opportune time to do the mission given the warmer days of the year.

Just as we identify with Christ’s suffering, death, and resurrection, we’re also meant to identify with His mission. Christ’s mission is also our mission.

But how has the Lord’s mission become ours? How have we received Christ’s commissioning?

The answer is through the commissioning of our brother and apostle, Apostle Arsenio T. Ferriol. Just as we received God’s grace through his calling and apostleship (Romans 1:5), we also have come to share in his work of preaching the gospel. Paul, upon sharing the gospel with people, subsequently enjoyed their help and support in his ministry (Philippians 1:3-5).

And so do we in the church. We are the apostle’s co-laborers in the mission. The church grew into what it has become today because of the partnership the apostle got from those saved through his very ministry, including us here in Canada.

While secularism and pluralism is steadily growing in Canada, and Christianity, along with other faiths, is becoming more and more disdained, it still remains true that the gospel must be heard, and believers of the Lord must be seen. I truly believe that there are still many remnants of the Lord here in this country, and so we must seek to find them. And finding them means we have to go out there.

The ministry the apostle received is the preaching of the gospel that saves and perfects. We believe that in the PMCC (4th Watch), believers’ faith and service may be perfected. We are thankful for the biblical and apostolic teachings and practices we have in the church.

And so let us endeavour to have a part in the Summer of Great Commission.

The Summer of Great Commission simply means that this summer we will intentionally seek to do the mission. Let’s decide in our minds that we will have a part in it. Let’s arrange our schedules so that we may be able to join our local churches’ evangelistic programs, and let us prepare ourselves spiritually, for the mission is very much a spiritual work.

I pray that we will all have an abundant harvest. Happy Summer of Great Commission

Reflect:

What concrete plans do you have to help out in the Summer of Great Commission?

Amen! Thank you po Ptr. Gen for today’s devotional. This is very much fitting as we start this Summer of Great Commission. By God’s grace, we in the PMCC 4th Watch Kitchener are pledging to partner ourselves in this call. The brethren are excited for our evangelistic endeavours every week, as well as for our upcoming Canada Crusade. We’re praying that God will do wonders and make us all victorious! To God be the Glory!
