The Resurrection Power in the Daily

Read: Ephesians 1:18-20

Fighting death is the ultimate goal of medical science. The strength, power, and efficacy of a medicine is based on its ability to cure illness or prevent death from happening. Undoubtedly, a number of medical advances have resulted in prolonged lives, low mortality rate, and prevention and cure of diseases.

But until now, in spite of all the amazing powers in medicine, death remains a reality we are all too familiar with. Perhaps recently you had a loved one or someone you know pass away. The global pandemic dubbed as COVID-19 claimed 3.4 million lives as reported by the World Health Organization. Clearly, death’s power grips humanity by the neck with no hope of release. In the end, death is the victor. Or so it seems.

That’s just on the surface of things. Death has actually been defeated. How? By a power like no other. Not the power of any medical attainment. No. It is the power of the resurrection of the Lord Christ Jesus. Resurrection means coming back from death to life. Resurrection is death defied. Christ stood up against and won over death. As 1 Corinthians 15:54-56 says, “Death has been swallowed up in victory… thanks be to God who gives us victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!.” Christ is the only one who came back to life and remained alive to this day! By dying and by coming back to life, He sent death scurrying away with its tail between its hind legs! That is the resurrection power!

Christ is the ultimate victor who is the firstfruits of resurrection, that is, the first to be resurrected in the manner that He did, never again to die. As the firstfruits, it means He is to be followed by numerous others.

John 11:25-26 says, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die.” The word of God says that whoever believes in Him will also overcome death as He did.

But don’t you know that we don’t have to wait for our own resurrection to experience the power of Christ’s resurrection? As children of God, we now, in fact, have the resurrection power!

Ephesians 1:18-20 says,  “I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know… His incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, which He exerted in Christ when He raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms.”

There is a power that is at work in us which the Bible describes as “incomparable.” This power is like the power God exerted to raise Christ from the dead. This is the resurrection power.

Therefore, let us have the same desire as that of Apostle Paul’s as he speaks of it in Philippians 3:10, “I want to know Christ and the power of His resurrection.” The power of His resurrection allows for the children of God to have the power to overcome sin, to live a holy life, to overcome all sorts of addictions, depression, and all kinds of adversities in this life. If death is the ultimate enemy, and it was defeated by the power of Christ’s resurrection, how much more everything else that is trying to destroy us? I pray we can live out in the daily the resurrection power.

Reflect:

Think about the aspect or aspects of your life where you would like the resurrection power to be manifested more.
