Read: Romans 8:9-11
In our service to God, we have one who empowers us, He is no other than the Holy Spirit. Acts 1:8 states that the Holy Spirit is our power-giver, hence, our Enabler. Without the power of the Holy Spirit, we won’t be able to serve God at all. We simply do not have the will power, discipline, and strength to do so. The reason we’re able to continue in the faith is because we have the Holy Spirit in us.
But don’t you know that the Holy Spirit came down here on earth and is here with us guiding and strengthening us because the resurrection happened? Had Christ remained dead, He would not have been able to ascend back to heaven, and if He did not ascend back to heaven, leaving His first disciples on earth, He would not have sent His vicar, the Holy Spirit. Christ knows the believers are powerless on their own to do the will of God, so He sent someone to take His place in strengthening the believers. He sent the Holy Spirit.
Locum or locum tenens is a Latin word referring to a person who temporarily fulfills the duties of another. Similar to locum tenens, the word vicar is also derived from a Latin word, vicarius, meaning substitute. The Holy Spirit is the Lord Jesus’ locum tenens or vicar here on earth.
Today I want to remind you that you have help as you seek to walk triumphantly, waiting for your inheritance from the Lord. God sent the Holy Spirit to help us in our service. So the next time you feel discouraged, pause and listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit. Keep in step with the Holy Spirit, and you will have more of His power. Keep your head up, for He who is coming is coming soon, and His reward is with Him.
Reflect:
What practical steps can you take to be more attuned to the Holy Spirit?
