He Is Still the Miracle-Working God

By: Ptr. Gen Concepcion

Reading: Psalm 139:13–18

It has been thirteen years and two other successful pregnancies since my first one, yet I remain in awe of the beginning and development of life.

One lingering question I hope to ask God one day (if questions are allowed in heaven) is this: “How do the gametes know?” How do they know to begin dividing after fertilization? How do they know which cells will become the placenta and which will become the baby? And how do those cells know whether to become limbs, lungs, or tongues?

Life is miraculous. Moms, pause and reflect—you have firsthand experienced a miracle. Think of all the processes your child went through before birth, and praise God for allowing you to take part in His miraculous work of life.

Yet even more miraculous is conceiving beyond human convention. The virgin birth of Jesus through Mary was the greatest miracle within the miracle of conception. Mary’s pregnancy was unlike any other before or after her—she conceived and gave birth as a virgin.

God’s miracles are often preceded by doubt and questions. Mary’s “How can this be?” echoes Moses’ “I am a stutterer,” Jeremiah’s “I am but a child,” and our own “I’m not enough” or “This is too hard.”

Joseph’s struggle mirrors Elijah hiding in a cave and Jonah running from his calling. It reflects our own temptation to withdraw, give up, or walk away.

This Christmas season, let us return to the angel’s words: “Nothing is impossible with God” (Luke 1:37). Let us remember God’s question in Jeremiah 32:27: “Is anything too hard for Me?”

We serve an all-powerful God—omniscient, loving, and attentive to our every need. He sees our tears, hears our cries, and is able to work miracles in our lives.

Like Mary, let us say, “I am the Lord’s servant.” Like Joseph, let us choose faith, trust, and obedience. Remember, you are fearfully and wonderfully made—a living miracle and a testimony of God’s power. Always believe in His ability to work a miracle in your life.

Reflection:
Are you facing something today that only God can resolve? How deeply do you trust in His power?

Reflection:

Are you going through something right now which only a miracle can resolve? How much do you believe in the power of God?
