Reading Plan: John 4:34 – “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to finish His work.”
“Christmas in Our Hearts” has always been my favorite Christmas song. Every time I hear it, I’m transported back to the memories of my mother preparing for Christmas Eve, the simple exchange of gifts with my sisters, and the small presents we gave our parents. Those moments brought me so much happiness.
Growing up in the Philippines, living a simple life with my family, I learned that loving God and family is more than enough.
I remember, in my younger years, a pastor once preached about loving God. He said, “If you love God, you will do the work of God.”
But what is the work of God? In John 4:34, Christ Himself teaches us that doing the will of God was His “food.” This wasn’t referring to physical food; it was His joy, His purpose, and His true nourishment—the work of God.
As we enter the caroling season, we might ask ourselves, “Why do believers—why do we, as 4th Watchers—carol?”
Because caroling is one way to do the work of God. It’s not just about spreading joy or adding a festive atmosphere to homes. Caroling brings salvation to people.
When someone hears the singing at their door, their heart is touched, and that moment becomes the beginning of God’s work in their life.
One example is Ptr. Glen Sabino, who once received Christmas carolers at his door. That simple moment eventually led him to salvation, and now he’s serving as the pastor of the local church in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
Maybe you—maybe any one of us reading this—could be the reason someone comes to know Christ. When we choose to do God’s will, He can use us in ways we may never fully understand.
Reflection: In what ways are you working out the will of God in your life this Christmas season?
