Reading for the day: 1 Corinthians 3:17
The Summer of Love was a landmark social movement that unfolded in San Francisco during the summer of 1967. Approximately 100,000 mostly young individuals gathered in the city’s Haight-Ashbury district and Golden Gate Park, drawn together by shared ideals and a desire for change. This event became a defining moment in the rise of the counterculture, marked by a rejection of traditional societal norms and an embrace of peace, love, and communal living. Its influence rippled across Western culture, leaving a lasting legacy on music, fashion, art, and social activism.
Fast forward to 2025, the recently concluded Home Free Global Crusade in the Bay Area stands as an impactful spiritual revival echoing the transformational power of the Gospel. Just as the 1967 gathering was a cultural awakening that reshaped values and inspired a generation, the Home Free Crusade is God’s way of displaying His saving grace to a world still searching for meaning.
While the Summer of Love was all about peace and togetherness through countercultural ideals, the Home Free Global Crusade brought something even greater. It’s about real, lasting hope found in Jesus Christ. The event was an exciting experience filled with music, testimonies, and powerful performances that caught everyone’s attention. But beyond the show, it was the message of the Gospel that truly touched hearts and made a difference.
At the center of it all was God’s invitation to those who feel lost, tired, or broken and it was shared powerfully by Apostle Jonathan Santos Ferriol. It was a clear and moving reminder of how deeply God loves every one of us.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” – John 3:16
Just like in 1967, the Bay Area once again became a place of transformation, hope, and the search for something real. Only this time, it pointed straight to Christ and his message of salvation.
This summer, the church continues to press forward in its mission to evangelize the lost and strengthen the saints. Just days before the Home Free Crusade in California, the Canada District held an inspiring and empowering Summer Camp. I was truly blessed to be part of it and to witness firsthand the vision that was poured into every believer in attendance. Last year, the district embarked on the Summer of Great Commission with overwhelming results. This year, we will be in full support of the Season of Expansion, committing to its programs and goals.
As the church moves deeper into this Season of Expansion, it becomes clear that there is much to be done for the mission of God. The Home Free Crusade in Edmonton last May, along with the recently concluded crusade in the Bay Area, stand as powerful catalysts, marking the beginning of the great harvest the Lord has prepared for us. This season, we are not only to expand in different areas of our service to God but also to grow in our love for souls.
I believe we need to make the most of this season. Summer comes and goes so quickly, but while it’s here, let’s not just enjoy it, let’s use it for something that truly matters. For me, this “summer of love” is more than just a phrase, it’s a beautiful opportunity to draw people closer to God.
As the church moves deeper into this Season of Expansion, it becomes clear that there is much to be done for the mission of God.
Summer has always held a special meaning in my life. Since I was young, it’s been a time filled with joy and purpose. During my high school and college days, I looked forward to school breaks, not just for relaxation and rest, but for ministry. I remember joining our local church’s summer outreach in Manila. We were just youth, but we were eager to serve. We took part in street corner crusades, market evangelism, and went house to house, sharing the Gospel to people.
Those summers shaped me. They taught me that no moment spent for God is ever wasted. Looking back, I can honestly say that the best summers of my life were the ones spent in service to Him. And here I am once again, soaked in sweat under the blazing sun, grateful for another chance to be part of the mission.
This summer of love is another moment for us to shine and share God’s love to people. As the Bible says in Matthew 5:14-16,
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Reflection: As we step into this summer of love and the Season of Expansion, how are you letting your light shine for Christ? In what ways can you use this season to help bring someone closer to God?
