There’s More When We Pray More

by Elder Aries de Vera

Reading for the day: Matthew 7:7

Have you ever thought about prayer not just as a duty, but as one of the most incredible gifts we’ve been given as believers? It’s so much more than a spiritual ritual; it’s a genuine communion with the living God. Yet, I know I’ve sometimes fallen into the trap of treating prayer as a last resort, something I do only when I’ve exhausted all other options. But time and again, both in Scripture and in my own life, I’m reminded of a profound truth: there’s more when we pray more.

Let’s dive into some of the amazing “more” that awaits us when we consistently seek God in prayer:

More of His Presence

When we make prayer a consistent part of our lives, we begin to genuinely experience God’s presence in our daily moments. It’s not just about asking for things; it’s about drawing closer to Him. I’ve found that the more I pray, the more I become aware of how truly near He is. As Psalm 145:18 reminds us, “The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth”. In prayer, we don’t just talk to God; we meet with Him. A powerful consortium – prayer is the sacred meeting place between God and His people. In an age overwhelmed by distractions, whether from advancing technology or the constant pull of social media, it has become increasingly difficult to focus on the things of God. Yet, one timeless practice remains: prayer. It is the enduring way to stay grounded. The prayer of the righteous never grows outdated or irrelevant. It is, and always will be, the most effective way to draw near to the heart of God.

More of His Plans Revealed

One of my favorite invitations from God is in Jeremiah 33:3, “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know”. This isn’t just a promise of answers; it’s a promise of revelation. When we pray more, God promises to show us “great and unsearchable things”. How often have I felt stuck, only to realize I simply hadn’t truly asked God for His wisdom. Prayer truly positions us to receive His divine timing and direction. During my youth days in the church, I witnessed how God revealed His visions through our leaders, beginning with our beloved late apostle, Apostle Arsenio Tan Ferriol, the Goodman of the House. In times of prayer especially during camps and major events, God would unveil His visions. And it was also through prayer that these visions came to life. The growth and expansion of the church in our time can be traced back to the countless hours spent in earnest prayer. The more we devote ourselves to prayer, the more God entrusts us with His visions.

More Power Released

Have you ever felt powerless in a situation? The Bible tells us that “the prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective” (James 5:16). The early church understood this deeply. When Peter was imprisoned, the church didn’t just worry; they “were earnestly praying to God for him,” and God sent an angel to miraculously set him free. Their prayer changed the outcome! It’s such an encouragement to remember that the same God who moved then still moves today when His people pray in faith. The recent Home Free Global Crusade held in Edmonton, Alberta is another testament to the moving power of God to his people.  Faced with overwhelming uncertainties and a daunting workload, the PMCC 4th Watch Canada District turned to prayer and fasting, seeking God’s divine intervention. One thing remained certain: God always makes a way for His people. True enough, the Home Free event in Edmonton became one for the books, a powerful display of excellence and God’s saving grace. It was a day to remember. When we pray more–greatness follows!

More Spiritual Resilience

Life is undeniably full of battles, some we see, some we don’t. But when we pray more, we are strengthened for the fight. Prayer equips us with a supernatural peace in the midst of chaos, courage when fear tries to creep in, and endurance when trials seem unending. It aligns our hearts with heaven’s perspective, reminding us that we are never alone and we are certainly not without weapons. Paul encourages us in Ephesians 6:18 to pray “on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests” as a vital part of our spiritual armor.

Let’s not settle for less. Let’s not live with unanswered questions, unclaimed promises, or breakthroughs yet to be experienced. Jesus Himself invited us, saying, “ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you” (Matthew 7:7). God isn’t just tolerating our prayers; He’s inviting them. The more we ask, the more we receive. The more we seek, the more we find. The more we knock, the more doors open.

In this Season of Expansion, God will reveal more of His power—an assurance that there is more when we pray more. We will continue to grow in number, and we will continue to excel in our service to Him. Greater things are coming. Let’s step into it!

Reflection: How has prayer transformed your relationship with God, and in what areas of your life do you believe there is “more” waiting to be revealed through persistent prayer?
